Surgery trip – Day 2

Today did not really go how I expected. It *was* a good day though.

We decided since it wasn’t going to be as nice weather wise today, that we would go for a drive. We figured we could go check out the bed and breakfast we’ll be at on Saturday, and also scout out the hospital when the magic happens.

The B&B is in a quaint residential neighborhood, adjacent to a park. Probably will just spend time socializing, writing, drawing, etc… once we’re there.

The hospital was where things diverted from plan. First, we ran into my friend that is getting her surgery the same day – she was there for a consult with Dr. Brassard. We were trying to find the recovery house entrance, and they happened upon us. Chatted with them for a while, and decided that we should scope out the inside of the hospital while we were out.

Before that, though, I was taking a couple snacks to a friend in the recovery house. I have known her for a couple years now, though we’d never met. It was nice that our times here overlapped, so that I could finally meet her. Today’s visit was short, but good. I will see her again for a longer visit once we’re at the B&B.

After that visit, we headed to the hospital. They’ve been building a new facility for the last little while, and it was quite nice inside, very modern and clean. I decided to ask the nurse if I should have a consultation as well, since none was scheduled for me. She went to talk to someone, then came back and said she’d talk to Dr. Brassard and find out. Turns out, I was going to have a consultation with my doctor this day.

We had to wait for one other patient to have a visit with Dr. Brassard, then it was my turn. Teresa and I went in. I was actually extremely calm. More than I’ve ever been for any doctor visit, especially with a doctor I’d never met before. It was kind of cool. He exudes a calm confidence, and was very pleasant to talk to and joke with.

As most of my doctor appointments go, about half of it was just conversation, and half was relevant to my surgery. I got to ‘drop skirt’ for him, and got told I will not need a skin graft. I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to need one. Had some questions about my blood thinners, and how they might affect my ability to heal (they shouldn’t – they’re pretty “mild”). My surgery will be the second one of the day – I am EXTREMELY grateful for that. I am not a morning girl. I don’t care if I’ll be hungrier because of longer fasting. I won’t have to hurry in the morning.

So, it was very beneficial for me to have this consult, and completely not on the itinerary today.

After this, we went for a bit of a drive. I was trying to get us to a park or something, but nothing was really working out. Eventually, we decided to go drive back to where we were going to have dinner. Went for a bit of a walk to a market area that had a gluten free creperie. We had a chocolate banana crepe that was REALLY good. Then walked back toward the car, and the restaurant.

We had dinner at a small restaurant called Zero8. It’s a Franglais play on words for Zero Wheat (huit). The place boasts no allergens, and even if you don’t have one of the common types of allergens, but something more rare, they will try to accommodate you.

Teresa had a mushroom velouté to start, then smoked duck poutine for her main, and a verrine du caramel for dessert. I had a lemon and dill grilled chicken breast with squash puree and grilled veggies, with a chocolate mousse for dessert. It was a bit pricey, but no tipping (they charge a bit more and pay their staff well), and was very good.

Now, we’re back at the hotel chilling a bit before bed. Tomorrow will be wandering Old Montreal, and then I’ll be having dinner with a friend I haven’t seen in about 2 years.

Goodnight everyone!
